INTRODUCTION
Welcome to our comprehensive guide on permanent makeup (PMU), a transformative and time-saving solution that can enhance your natural beauty and simplify your daily beauty routine. Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, is gaining popularity for its ability to create long-lasting, beautiful results. In this article, we will explore the benefits, potential side effects, contraindications, and what to expect from permanent makeup procedures.

WHAT IS PERMANANT MAKEUP?
Permanent makeup is a cosmetic procedure that involves the use of specialized pigments to enhance and define features like eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips. The goal is to create a long-lasting and natural look, allowing individuals to wake up with makeup already in place and reduce the time and effort required for daily cosmetic application.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
If you are, or have any of the following, you may not be a good candidate for this treatment:
-
Under 18 years of age
-
Pregnant or breastfeeding

Eczema or any other skin conditions

Use of Accutane in the last 12 months
-
Regular chemical peels

SIDE AFFECTS
Like any cosmetic procedure, permanent makeup may have potential side effects, though these are typically mild and temporary. Common side effects may include:
-
Swelling and Redness: Mild swelling and redness at the treatment site are normal and usually subside within a few days.
-
Tenderness: The treated area may feel tender or sensitive for a short time following the procedure.
-
Itching: Some individuals may experience temporary itching in the treated area as it heals.
-
Colour Fading: Over time, the initial intensity of the pigment may fade slightly, which is why follow-up appointments are often recommended.

THE TREATENT PROCESS
If you're considering permanent makeup to enhance your features or simplify your daily beauty routine, it's essential to understand the treatment process. Here's a step-by-step overview of what to expect during a typical permanent makeup treatment:
Consultation:
Your permanent makeup journey begins with an initial consultation with a qualified and experienced PMU artist. During this consultation, you'll discuss your desired look, your preferences, and any specific concerns you may have.
We will assess your skin type and colour, evaluate the areas you wish to enhance, and explain the process.
Pre-Treatment Preparation:
On the day of your treatment, we will cleanse the treatment area and will work with you to create the desired shape and style for your permanent makeup. This step involves selecting the appropriate colour to match your skin tone and achieve a natural look.
We may apply a topical numbing cream to minimise any discomfort during the procedure, dependent on the area being treated.
Tattooing Process:
We will use a specialised tattoo machine with fine needles to carefully deposit pigments into the skin's topmost layer. The procedure is slightly uncomfortable to start with, but then typically painless due to the secondary numbing cream once the skin is broken, and clients usually experience only mild discomfort or a slight vibrating sensation.
Immediate and Ongoing Results:
The initial results of permanent makeup may appear darker or more pronounced than the final look. This is normal and temporary. Over the following days and weeks, the colour will soften and settle into a more natural appearance.
Potential Side Effects:
Common side effects include mild redness, swelling, and tenderness in the treated area. These effects are typically temporary and will subside within a few days.
Follow-Up Appointment:
In many cases, a follow-up appointment is scheduled after several weeks to evaluate the results and make any necessary adjustments or enhancements.
Longevity of Results:
The longevity of permanent makeup results can vary depending on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and the area treated. Typically, it lasts from one to three years. Periodic touch-up appointments can help maintain the vibrancy of the colour and shape

In conclusion, permanent makeup is a convenient and time-saving solution to enhance your features and simplify your daily beauty routine. To ensure the best results and minimize potential risks, consult with a skilled and experienced PMU artist, follow their guidance throughout the process, and adhere to the recommended aftercare instructions.
